WHY RETREAT?

As we experience life’s milestones we sometimes forget that we are more than daughters, wives, and mothers. We matter.

A retreat offers a chance to slow down, breathe, and step away from the busyness of everyday life. It’s an opportunity to reflect on your purpose, values, and motivation—a time to recharge your batteries, gain perspective, and reconnect with yourself.

To retreat is to temporarily leave behind the usual distractions we all have in our lives long enough to allow relaxation and an inner peace to occur. Stretching Forward allows us to look ahead to all that life still has to offer, and realize we are enough.

What Can You Gain from Taking Time to Retreat?

  • Deepen your self-awareness and get to know yourself better

  • Relax at a deeper level, free from the distractions of home

  • Create, envision, and build what’s next in your life

  • Recharge and rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul

  • Uplift your spirit and sense of purpose

  • Make meaningful connections with like-minded women

What to Expect on a Stretching Forward Lakeside Retreat

Here’s what you can expect from your experience with a Stretching Forward Lakeside Retreat.

1.  Lakeside

There is nothing like Lakeside to provide the perfect atmosphere for retreat. As Joan Anderson says, we need to “retreat in order to retrieve lost strength, repair our inner selves and regroup by lightening our load, regenerating our spirits and returning new to an old place.” Lakeside provides space to roam, to view the beauty of Lake Erie, to saunter the many walking paths, discover so many quaint cottages, and savor all nature has to offer. Spring and fall are off-season, the perfect time to experience Lakeside.

2. Connection

Connection is at the heart of this retreat. Whether you arrive alone or with a friend, you’ll be welcomed into a circle of women ready to slow down, share, and truly be present. It’s a space to meet new friends, deepen existing bonds, and allow yourself the freedom to simply be. Here, you can feel safe, seen, and supported. Most of all, my hope is that you leave with a deeper, more lasting connection to yourself—a gentle reminder of your own strength, wisdom, and beauty.

3. Solitude

Step away from the rush of everyday life and take time to reconnect with your inner self. Inspired by Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s words, “For if it is a woman’s nature to nurture, then she must nourish herself,” each retreat offers daily moments of reflection, mindful journaling, and gentle sharing with others. Each evening brings calm and serenity, helping you quiet your mind and embrace restful renewal. Discover clarity, peace, and gratitude for the unique person you are. Your journey to balance and self-care begins here.

4. Activity

The retreat is not just about sitting, listening, or writing. Activities are thoughtfully designed to keep you active and engaged, both inside the cottage and outdoors. Enjoy nature walks, observational exercises, and interactive games that get you moving and fully present. Throughout each day, scheduled breaks allow you to stretch and refresh both your body and mind. Outdoor activities are gentle, invigorating, and highly recommended—but always optional, allowing you to participate at your own pace.

5. Food

Everyone enjoys a delicious meal, a fun snack, or an occasional sweet treat. All meals are homemade, and snacks are available throughout the day. Coffee, hot water for tea, and ice water are always on hand. Whenever possible, we accommodate food preferences provided ahead of the retreat to ensure every guest feels nourished and cared for.

6. Fun

My hope is that you have fun! So often, the demands of daily life can weigh us down, and we forget to celebrate and experience true joy. This retreat is designed to leave you feeling motivated, energized, and uplifted. Many of the activities encourage laughter and connection, giving you opportunities to share smiles and joy with others. Participation is entirely up to you—choose what feels right and enjoy the experience at your own pace.
